We all have been there. When it seems that our to do lists, work projects, demands from kids, family, keeping up with our houses and cars turn us into a stressed out mess. It is easy to get overwhelmed and not know where to start. This is when you may try to “save time” by multitasking and procrastinating things that you don’t want to do until the last minute. Your mind gets muddled up full of endless tasks with no break.
This leads to feelings of exhaustion, irritability and feelings of hopelessness. You may tell yourself "it’s too much for me, I never get a break.” It is true, you will never get a break if you don’t take a break for yourself! You have to make yourself a priority and know by giving yourself that time out, you will be more productive and able to get through everything you need to do more efficiently than if you kept going without a break.
Imagine that as you go through your life, its’ like you are driving on a highway. There will be quiet, peaceful times as you travel down your road. You can relax, take in the scenery, feel the breeze on your face and know its smooth sailing for now. Other times you will see a yellow light and that is your signal to slow down.
Moving too fast in your life is not healthy, we all need our moments of stopping and slowing down. This might mean for you to prioritize what is most important to you right now, saying “no” to things that are not on your priority list even when someone else thinks it should be a priority for you.
The yellow light may also mean you need to set some daily and weekly goals for yourself when too much is making your life go by too fast. When you take on everything at once, you become stretched so thin it can be hard to find the inner resources to pick yourself up again. The red light means that danger may be ahead and it’s time to stop. You may feel impatient about putting the brakes on your life but it is necessary. This might also be the time for some self-reflection and determine if you are going in the direction want to be going.
Do you stay on the same road you have been going or do you take a left and try a new road to a different life? You decide, if your current road is full of bumps, darkness and unhappiness it may be time for you to choose another one. You have the power to improve your life, make something better for yourself. It starts with the decision that you want something more. Remember, you deserve the best that life has to offer!
